Index Crimes
As a result of the above Calls for Service, the following number of Index Crimes were investigated during the above years. The term Index Crimes refers to the crimes of Homicide, Rape, Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Burglary, Larceny, Motor Vehicle Theft, and Arson. All other crimes, such as Assault, Criminal Mischief, Motor Vehicle Burglary, Trespassing, Harassment, Terrorizing, Criminal Threatening and various Criminal Traffic Offences, are included in the remaining balance of Criminal Cases Investigated. For example: in 2001 there were 2,953 Criminal Cases and 391 of those cases were Index Crimes, so the remaining of 2,562 cases were other non Index Crimes.Year |

Traffic Enforcement
The following Traffic Enforcement information contains only the information from traffic stops which actually resulted in the issuance of a traffic summons. The number of Summons issued is marginal in portion to the number of traffic stops actually made. For example: in 1999 there were 6873 traffic stops, which resulted in 1859 traffic summons. This resulted in a ratio of 27.4 to 72.6 or 1 in every 4 traffic stops resulted with someone being issued a summons.
