Qualifications: Graduation from high school, Associated Degree or Bachelors Degree preferred and the following abilities. Ability to pass requirements of the Criminal Justice Academy, must be able to meet established physical and medical requirements, ability to cope with stressful situations firmly, courteously, tactfully and with respect for the rights of others, while exercising considerable discretion.
Nature and Variety of Work: This is a highly responsible general duty and investigative police work in the protection of life and property on an assigned shift. Work involves responsibility for enforcing laws and ordinances, preventing, investigating crimes and apprehending individuals accused of a crime. Work is performed in accordance with departmental rules and regulations. Work involves an element of danger, and officers must be able to act without direct supervision and to exercise considerable independent judgment in meeting emergencies. Assignments and general instructions are received from a superior officer who reviews work methods and results throughout reports, personal inspections and discussions.
Responsibilities: Patrols a designated area of the Town to preserve law and order, to prevent and discover the commission of crimes and to enforce ordinances and laws. Conducts accident investigations, examines the accident scene, provides first aid when required, interviews principals and witnesses, taking written statements. Investigates crimes against persons and property , interviews victims and witnesses, searches for and processes evidence, arrests individuals suspected of crime, testifies in criminal and civil court proceedings. Prepares reports, keeps records of investigations and performs numerous other related tasks in performance of his/her duties.
Skills: Ability to analyze situations quickly, objectively and to determine proper course of action according to law and department policies. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public. Public Safety Communications Supervisor
Starting annual wage $34,000 to
$41,500 depending upon applicant’s education and experience.

The Communications supervisor is charged with ensuring compliance with the Department’s policies and State regulations. They shall be responsible for assisting, coaching and directing all personnel under their supervision in the proper discharge of their duties and interaction with all other Town employees and the public.
They shall be responsible for the proficiency, training, discipline, conduct, appearance and scheduling of all personnel under their supervision.
Supervisory authority and reporting:
Supervises the staff of the

Duties:
The communications supervisor’s duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Regular communications line functions consisting of answering business and emergency telephone lines, dispatching police, fire and rescue as appropriate. Operating the NCIC and METRO terminals.
Supervise, coach, counsel, evaluate and direct personnel assigned to the communications center and direct scheduling.
Supervise and participate in the training of new employees on police, fire, rescue procedure, equipment and performance requirements.
Ensure that performance of personnel assigned to the communications center is up to standard and interaction between Town employees and the public is courteous and professional.
Be fully familiar with current department rules, policies, procedures and laws that affect the communication center. Assists in developing and interpreting policies and procedures that affect the communications center and the interaction with all other departments and the public. Maintain appropriate records and files as set by local, State and Federal guidelines.
Assist the administration in the hiring process for the communications center.
Assist the administration in all related personnel issues.
Serve as a liaison between other Town departments and other outside agencies and departments.
Serve as a liaison and first point of contact for the Fire Chief or his designee for the purpose public safety communications efficiency, Fire/Rescue policy & protocol, and complaints.
Serve as a liaison between field and communications staff to promote relations and efficiency.
Coordinate and oversee the maintenance of radio and other related equipment and coordinate the organization of the communications center and facilitate the custodial maintenance of the center.
Assist in the investigation of problems or complaints regarding specific incidents. Assist in the investigation of complaints against communication personnel and respond in a manner that results in the appropriate complaint resolution.
Attend and coordinate training on communications procedures and systems in order to improve and update the performance of the communications center.
Assist in identifying and establishing long and short term goals with the employees of the communications center and for the communications center.
Report all serious or unusual occurrences to the appropriate authority.

Public Safety Dispatcher
Starting Salary is $536.27/wk with incentives for Degree Programs and prior experience.
Qualifications: Experience with the operation of public safety emergency communication equipment and systems, graduation from high school, any combination of experience or training which provides the following abilities or skills: Knowledge of the geography of the Town or the ability to acquire such knowledge within a reasonable amount of time, knowledge of radio transmission procedures, knowledge of emergency medical services, police and fire department regulations, policies and procedures. Ability to act quickly, calmly and correctly under emergency situations. The applicant must have no criminal history.
Nature and Variety of Work: This is specialized work in dispatching messages in the Police Department's communications center. Work involves the responsibility for operating the radio communications equipment for the Police and Fire Departments. This work also involves related clerical tasks for both departments. All work is performed in accordance with departmental rules and regulations and State and Federal law, but requires considerable discretion and individual judgment in completing and controlling dispatching under stress full conditions.
Responsibilities: Dispatches emergency medical, police and fire units to scene of a problem. Answers both emergency and administrative phone lines for police and fire departments. Operates teletype system in retrieving criminal history and licensing information from State and National computer networks. Performs assorted related clerical and records keeping tasks for the police and fire departments.
Skills: Ability to maintain dispatching procedures, coordinating and assigning equipment within departmental procedures and with respect to the needs of a particular emergency. Ability to speak clearly and effectively. Ability to understand and carry out both oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public.

Qualifications: Preferred candidates will be a Certified Animal Control Officer with prior experience. Some knowledge of law enforcement principles, procedures, techniques, equipment and working knowledge of animal restraint and care techniques. Skill in operating animal capture equipment, police radio pager, and first aid equipment. Have the ability to learn the applicable state laws, rules and regulations, and municipal ordinances. Have an ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing and to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with subordinates, peers, supervisors, and the public. Have an ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and in making decisions. The ability to follow verbal and written instructions and must learn the municipal geography.
Nature and Variety of Work: While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in outside weather conditions. The employee may work with dangerous, sick and injured animals in high precarious places and may be exposed to cold, hot, wet and/or humid conditions
Responsibilities: Responds and investigate complaints concerning animal problems or violations and ensures that the laws established in 7 MRSA chapters 719, 720, 721, 725, 729. 730,739, 741 and municipal ordinances are enforced. Problems and violations would include but are not limited to uncontrolled animals, damage done by animals, cruelty to animals and animals that are sick, injured or abandoned. Insures dogs six month or older are currently licensed with the municipality. Inspects kennels in accordance to "Maine's Rules Setting Minimum Standards for : Pet Shops, Shelters, Kennels and Boarding Kennels". Responds to reports of an animal suspected of having rabies and ensures that the procedures established in 22 MRSA section 1313-A and "Rules Governing Rabies Management" are carried out. Issues warning or summons regarding animal control cases as required by state laws, rules and regulations and municipal ordinances. Appears in court to testify regarding animal cases. Prepares daily, monthly and annual reports of activities along with compiling a variety of data regarding animal control. Removes dead animals from streets. Works closely with the media, public interest groups, schools and businesses to promote public awareness of state laws, rules and regulations and municipal ordinances regarding rabies, animal control, and humane treatment of animals. Works using own judgment in deciding course of action, expected to handle difficult and emergency situations and requesting assistance when necessary. Qualified to use a weapon for dispatching animals in accordance with state, rules and regulations and municipal ordinances. Maintains normal availability by radio, pager or telephone for consultation or emergencies.
Skills: The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must be able to lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. The employee must have the skill in operating animal capture equipment, police radio pager, and first aid equipment. Qualified to use a weapon for dispatching animals.
